Network Address Translation (NAT)
Because every IP address for every host on the Internet must be unique, the InterNIC ensures that no two companies share IP addresses. If you do not use IP addresses assigned to you by the InterNIC, you might need NAT services to enable you to communicate across the Internet.
NAT enables you to keep the local IP addressing environment you have and communicate across the Internet. NAT translates your local IP addresses to officially assigned addresses for all active WAN sessions. The Pipeline 220 maintains internal tables to manage the address translation without affecting the configuration of any of your hosts.
Using the parameters you select here, the Quickstart creates a Connection Profile with the Profile Name NATConn. Connection Profile parameters not displayed on this screen are given default values. For example, Encapsulation is set to PPP.
Note: If you want to change any Connection Profile parameters not displayed in this Quickstart screen, you must do so from the Ascend Configurator.
