RIP-1

RIP (Routing Information Protocol) -- A protocol for exchanging routing table information. RIP table entries provide a cost for each destination called hops.

RIP-2

When a router receives RIP updates from another router, each new route has a hop count which is the sum of the hop counts on each leg of the route. RIP version 1 has been made obsolete and replaced by RIP version 2. RIP is published as an RFC.
