Whisper |
| Implementing features, see also Manager E Whisper/Off Hook Announcement |
Definition |
| The "Whisper/Off Hook Announcement" feature allows stations (station C in the illustration) to monitor an existing call between two stations (stations A and B in the illustration), and to pass on information to one of these stations (A). In other words, the connection is switched in such a way that only station A hears station C, and station B only hears A. |
|
|
| Station C activates this feature by dialing a code. The telephone features a part-programmed key (only the code is programmed on the key, the station number must be suffix-dialed). A new menu item will be incorporated into the Service menu, the Idle/Call menu will remain unchanged. |
| The option for activating the feature is linked to a new, user-specific class of service. A second class of service can be used to protect station A from Whisper/Off Hook Announcement. |
| The feature is deactivated by the activating station (station C) or by modifying the features, but NOT through a separate code. |
| The "Whisper" feature is designed for use in call centers or executive/secretary systems, for example, and enables the user to communicate with one party (A) without the knowledge of the other party (B). |
|
Restrictions |
| • | If neither of the participants in the original call (station A or B) is a TDM station, the HiPath switching network is not involved at the time of activation and changeover is impossible without briefly interrupting the connection between A and B. |
| • | Stations A and C must be in the same node. |
| • | The feature can only be activated by station C from the idle/ready state. |
| • | Only telephones with a display that can be controlled by the system (optiPoint, OpenScape Personal Edition, OpenStage TDM) can function as destination telephones for Whisper/Off Hook Announcement (station A). Analog telephones cannot function as destination telephones for Whisper/Off Hook Announcement. CMI is not supported in HiPath 4000. |

Dependencies/Restrictions |
| Just as with the feature Silent Monitoring, Whisper/Off Hook Announcement is only permitted if the call between station A and station B is a simple connection between two stations. The Whisper/Off Hook Announcement feature cannot be used for consultation calls or conference calls. |
| If the Whisper/Off Hook Announcement feature is active and station A or station B initiates another call-related feature, the Whisper feature will be deactivated. The table below provides further information on interaction with particular features: |
