Possible Internet accesses |
| Generally Internet Service Providers (ISP) offer various options for connecting the customer network to the Internet. An ITSP is not necessarily an ISP. The ISP provides a DSL connection whereas the ITSP provides an SIP connection that uses the DSL connection as a transport medium. Arcor, for example, only provides DSL connections, not SIP connections. |
| The most common accesses (ISP) are: |
| • | ADSL with variable IP address ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line and means that the bandwidths from and to the ISP are different - the traditional DSL connection. A variable IP address is sufficient as long as the customer receives web and e-mail service from the ISP. The ISP offers two versions of this ADSL connection (analog and ISDN) at an attractive rate. |
| • | ADSL with fixed IP address A fixed IP address is needed if the customer wishes to operate a separate Web and e-mail server at their location. Other than that, there are no technical differences between this and ADSL with a variable IP address. The monthly charges for this ISP connection are usually higher than for a connection with a variable IP address. |
| • | SDSL connection SDSL stands for Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line. In contrast to ADSL, the bandwidths to and from the ISP are identical. The ISP normally provides the SDSL connection via Ethernet. This is then connected directly to the Ethernet port (port 2) on the HiPath system. |
| The choice of Internet connection depends on customer requirements and the traffic that you want to route over this connection. |
| Voice quality restrictions may occur in the case of connections that are not QoS compliant (generally ADSL connections). |
